PREMIER ‘S YOUTH SERVICE EXCELLENCE AWARDS AT EMALAHLENI

Premier Thabang Makwetla will deliver a keynote address at the 4th annual Premier’s Youth Service Excellence Awards in honour of the young men and women who have distinguished themselves in various fields such as entrepreneurship and job creation, culture, sport and recreation, education and volunteerism.

12 youths stand to benefit from this initiative, which has been co-sponsored by Mpumalanga Youth Commission, First National Bank (FNB), and TSB Malelane. At least 3 youths will be recognised in each category. Prizes to the value of R65 000 will be awarded to the deserving youths.

51 youths have benefited through this initiative, since the inception of the youth awards four years ago.

MECs, Government Officials and other important stakeholders in the youth development industry are expected to attend.

BURSARIES FOR VETERINARY NURSES

The Department of Agriculture and Land Administration in Mpumalanga is once again inviting interested students to apply for bursaries in the field of Veterinary Services. The department is offering three bursaries for Matriculants to study the Diploma in Veterinary Nursing on full time basis at the University of Pretoria.

The selection of candidates is based on the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be South African citizens;
  • Have been permanent residents in the Mpumalanga Province for at least one-year prior to application;
  • Study at the University of Pretoria, Faculty of Veterinary Services at Onderstepoort;
  • Preference will be given to applicants who come from the designated group in the rural areas;
  • Preference will be given to matriculants who excel academically and/or demonstrate potential;
  • Preference will be given to those who are not currently benefiting from any other bursary scheme.

The bursary includes the following package.

1. Cost
Costs for the period of study will cover tuition, accommodation and meals.

2. Admission requirements
Matric exemption with Mathematics and either Biology or Physical Science with a minimum of 40 % in Higher Grade or 50 % in Standard Grade.

3. Closing date
Applications for bursaries close on 22 November 2005. Successful candidates will be awarded bursaries to study for the 2006 academic year.

DEPUTY PRESIDENT PHUMZILE MLAMBO-NGCUKA TO ATTEND A MUNICIPAL IMBIZO IN NKANGALA DISTRICT, MPUMALANGA

Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka accompanied by Cabinet Ministers, Mpumalanga Premier Thabang Makwetla and his Executive council will visit the Nkangala District Municipality as part of the country-wide Municipal Imbizo programme intended to strengthen municipal capacity to deliver on their mandate. The Imbizo will take place at Witbank in the Nkangala District, Mpumalanga on Friday, 04 November 2005.

This drive is part of a number of initiatives within Government’s Programme of Action, to support local government in delivering on among others, the Integrated Development Plans (IDP) and Local Economic Development (LED). It also intends to enhance public participation in the areas where communities live, including measures to ensure that Ward Committees function.

The Imbizo will directly seek to engage communities and stakeholders in the implementation of Project Consolidate, (a hands-on local government support and engagement programme), as a practical, appropriate and national programme to deal with challenges some of which will be raised during the interactive sessions with Councillors, municipal officials and Ward Committees.
