Officials gather to plan for the New Year
HAZYVIEW – Officials in the Department of Culture, Sport and
Recreation want to deepen service delivery to the citizens of
Mpumalanga and recently held a two-day strategic planning session
see how best they can take the mandate of the department to new
heights.
Officials were hard at work planning on how finances of the
department can be utilized to ensure that people in the province
benefit from newly built libraries and sport facilities, organizing
of high caliber events that will impact positively into the lives of
people, development of sport and arts as well as creating a cohesive
society that will work together with government to uproot some of
the social ills afflicting the province.
MEC for Culture, Sport and Recreation, Ms Sibongile Manana attended
all the sessions and urged officials to roll up their sleeves as
people in the province expect service delivery in their areas.
“We are not coming here for a holiday and to rest but we are here
for a very important session and we need to finish all our
deliberations so that we leave this place with better plans that
will improve service delivery,” MEC Manana said.
She said the department needs to ensure that performing artists are
developed so that they could be able to stand on their own. “We must
collaborate with other agencies to work with us as we seek to
develop our artists,” MEC Manana said.
She said the department must continue addressing the moral decay in
our communities as the need for this is ever increasing.
MEC Manana said as the department builds libraries, it should find
ways of encouraging communities to utilize the libraries and
inculcate the spirit of ownership from the same communities.
On matters of sport, she said the department must help to establish
federations in all the 18 municipalities of the province adding that
there should be an annual target of establishment of six federations
per financial year.
“We also need to develop school sport excellence and the performance
of provincial sport men and women need to be recognized and going
forward, we shall coordinate the provincial sporting awards
annually,” MEC Manana said.
