Mpumalanga province will celebrate Freedom Day on 27 April 2008 at Siyathuthuka Stadium, Lekwa Municipality in the Gert Sibande District.

The theme for Freedom Day is:  Business unusual, all hands on the deck to speed up change.”

Freedom Day has been commemorated annually on 27 April since 1995 as a South African public holiday in remembrance of the country's first democratic elections on 27 April 1994.

The provincial government has organized build up events in the Nkangala and Ehlanzeni region targeting young people and educators who will be told about the importance of freedom day and what role they could play in advancing freedom in the country.

Our country has since 27 April 1994 ensured that all citizens aged 18 and older have a right and the opportunity to vote in elections for the political parties and candidates of their choice.

Various government departments and parastatals will conduct exhibitions during the celebration and inform the citizens of Mpumalanga on what government has done and also what it plans to do for them.

Mpumalanga Premier Thabang Makwetla will deliver a keynote address during the celebration. Entertainment will also be galore through national and provincial artists.
