– People in eMalahleni will get an opportunity to learn
and enjoy the Indian Culture when the popular and
colourful Rajasthan Folk Dance troupe of Mehruddin Langa
dazzles them with a performance at the eMalahleni Civic
Theatre on Wednesday, 13 June 2011.
The dance troupe from India was recently featured at the
Grahamstown Arts Festival
and they are known for their eye catching performances.
They will be in eMalahleni as part of an initiative by
the Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sport and
Recreation to deepen bilateral ties between Mpumalanga
and India as part of promoting cultural diversity and
the India and South Africa Cultural Exchange Programme.
The Indian Group is based in Rajasthan which is a desert
state in India and is the largest of the Indian
provinces.
It is celebrated for its architectural splendor and is
famous for its vibrant and colorful costumes.
The occasion will also be used to market
South African arts and culture as a local group,
the Izodele Cultural Group, will share the stage with
their Indian counterparts and showcase their talent.
Entrance will be free at the Civic Theater and
proceedings will commence at 18h00.
People
are urged to arrive early so
that they do not miss out on this important cultural
exchange festival.
The festival is brought together by the Mpumalanga
Department of Culture, Sport in partnership with the
National Department of Arts and Culture, The High
Commission of India and The Indian Council for Cultural
Relations.
