Department of Economic Development and Planning mourns the passing away of its CFO, Mr George Msiza

The Mpumalanga Department of Economic Development and Planning announces with great sadness the passing away of Mr. George Msiza. He was the Chief Financial Officer for the Department of Economic Development & Planning, a post that he held since June 2001 until his untimely death on Friday, 15 August 2008.

Mr Msiza contributed in a number of processes and projects that helped ensure sound management of the finances of the department. During his early years in the public service, Mr Msiza participated in the commission that drafted the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) which has been acclaimed as one of the best legislation since the ushering in of a new democratic dispensation in the country.

Before joining the Department of Economic Development of Planning (then Department of Economic Affairs and Finance) in 2001, Mr Msiza worked in Parliament of the Republic of South Africa (Cape Town); served as financial advisor at the Embekweni Municipality in Paarl (Western Cape), worked in the office of the Auditor General in Nelspruit and also at the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism.

In his capacity as the Chief Financial Officer, Mr Msiza participated in the restructuring of the Department and its agencies (Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency and Mpumalanga Tourism & Parks Agency), taking care of the financial matters connected therewith.

He was a loyal and dedicated cadre who would jealously guard the prescripts that govern financial management in the provincial government. He will be soely missed by his family, members of the staff, his colleagues in the Chief Financial Officers’ Forum, his movement to which he was dedicated to its ideals and programmes and indeed by the whole Mpumalanga Provincial Government.

George Msiza will be laid to rest at Loding Cementry, Loding (the former Kwa-Ndebele) on Saturday, 23 August 2008. May his soul rest in peace.
