Mpumalanga Department of Education will host the
Conference on Indigenous Languages in Education on
23-24 March 2007 at the Ingwenyama Lodge and
Conference Centre.
The theme of the Conference is: Consolidating the
role of Indigenous Languages in Education.
The following topics will be the focal point of the
conference:
• Indigenous Language Development: South African
perspective
• Challenges faced by the previously marginalized
languages
• Language and literacy development
• African Indigenous Languages-Lessons from other
countries
• Promotion of Indigenous Languages as school
subjects
The National Minister of Education in South Africa
Ms. Naledi Pandor, Zambian Ministry of Education,
MEC for Education in Mpumalanga, Siphosezwe Masango,
and the Pan South African Language Board will be
speakers at the conference. |
