Minister of
Education, Ms Naledi Pandor, launch the NIHE
in Mpumalanga.
Never has the proverbial Nguni idiom of “funda
ugogode” found its pragmatic expression better than
when the National Minister of Education launched the
National Institute of Higher Education at Emnothweni
Arena in Nelspruit.
This august function was graced by the presence of
political principals and other dignitaries from
different institutions of higher education.
The Minister of Education Ms Naledi Pandor, set the
tone for the success of this gigantic project by
delivering a moving speech on how this mart of
knowledge will quench the thirst of millions of
learners from disadvantaged socio-economic
backgrounds.
The Institute comes at an opportune time to curb the
exodus of students leaving the Province in a quest
for higher education opportunities in other
provinces.
This results in many learners who graduated from
these institutions choosing not to come back and
plough their acquired skills and knowledge in the
Province of their residence, Mpumalanga.
Many students in this Province have found it
difficult to access other Institutions of Higher
Education because of escalating boarding fees,
therefore the Mpumalanga Institute of Higher
Education was launched at an opportune time to raise
the hope of many future Mpumalanga students in line
with what the President professed as a year of hope
to South Africans.
The Minister made it lucid to the audience that
amongst the other responsibilities of the Board of
the Mpumalanga Institute for Higher Education it is
to give impetus to the Institute.
“I have indicated to the Board that there are
currently a number of issues indicated that require
further work and investigation.
One presumes that this venture will lead to a fully
established university in the future should the
people of the Province attest to this fact by great
registration numbers who subsequently become
graduates from this Institute.
This glistening ray of hope emmissed through the
Institute should be embraced fully by the people of
Mpumalanga Province. The walls of Higher Education
are now within reach, nothing should stop an African
child from reaching his dreams of becoming what she
wants to be. Funda ugogode!” said Minister Pandor.
