WOMEN BENEFICIARIES IN MASHISHING TO RECEIVE HOUSES DURING THE LAUNCH OF THE PROVINCIAL 2017 WOMEN’S MONTH PROGRAMME

25 July 2017

Mbombela - The Province of Mpumalanga will launch the 2017 Women’s Month Programme by donating houses to three (3) women beneficiaries at Mashishing in the Thaba Chweu Local Municipality on Friday, 28 July 2017.

The programme’s focus this year is on fighting crime and creating safe environments for all – hence the theme: “The Year of OR Tambo: Together Deepening Democracy and Building safer and secure communities”. This is against the backdrop that South Africa will commemorate the annual Women’s Month in August, as a tribute to the 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956 in protest against the extension of pass laws to women and the control of the movements of black people. The peaceful protest was met with brutal force by then racist apartheid regime.

The aim of the launch is to outline the activities for the whole month of August, and further to highlight key legacy projects for women and also to capacitate women on financial matters.

Premier David Mabuza is expected to kick-start the launch by handing over the three (3) houses to three (3) women beneficiaries – child headed, woman living with a disabilities and an elderly woman. Members of the Executive Council, Executive Mayors, Councillors, senior provincial and national government officials, community members, women formation structures and the private sector are expected to attend the launch.
