1 April 2009
The African Peer Review Mechanism’s (APRM) National Focal Point head and Minister of Public Service and Administration, Mr Richard Baloyi, will deliver the First Report on the implementation of South African‘s APRM on Monday, 6 April 2009 at Winkler Protea Hotel in White River. The APRM is a voluntary tool for self-evaluation designed to foster the adoption of policies, standards and practices that lead to political stability, high economic growth, sustainable development and accelerated sub-regional and continental economic integration.
The provincial consultative conferences which will see the revamp of the National Governing Council (NGC) aim to provide a platform for stakeholders to consult on the First Implementation Report of the Programme of Action (PoA). The conference will also focus on the reactivation of the Provincial Governing Council’s (PGC’s) to ensure a better synergy between the National and Provincial Governing Councils.
The main purpose of the conference is to allow the delegates in Mpumalanga to interrogate issues which were identified in the Country Review such as violence against women and children; service delivery levels and expectation from the community thereof; as well as the rights of people with disabilities, women, youth, and other vulnerable groups. The conference will also make inputs into the Programme of Action according to the four thematic areas; namely, democracy and political governance, economic governance and management, corporate governance and socio economic development.
The conference is expected to attract several key stakeholders from all walks of life including Members of the Executive Council, Executive Mayors, South African Local Government Association (SALGA), civil society organisations, organised labour, business sector, youth formations; people with disability, women representatives, and faith based organisations.
