Mpumalanga to host the provincial men’s dialogue on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide

12 November 2023

The Mpumalanga Provincial Government will this week host a Men’s Dialogue on Gender-based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) as part of a build-up towards the launch of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign. Mpumalanga is designated to host the launch on the 25th of November 2023 in the City of Mbombela Municipality.

The President, Mr Cyril Ramaphosa declared GBVF as the second pandemic affecting the country, based on rising gruesome cases of the scourge. Since then a multi-stakeholder approach, including the state, NGOs and Faith-based organisations, has been adopted to fight the scourge.

In Mpumalanga, the Provincial Government has intensified measures to eradicate GBVF cases. The Office of the Premier (OTP) in partnership with the Department for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities (DWY&PD) has planned a Men’s Dialogue to further bolster the GBVF fighting measures. Men from different sectors will attend.

The theme of the Dialogue is: “Positive masculinity in leadership to end violence and abuse against women and children”. It brings emphasis that toxic masculinity has to be discouraged on the notion that men tend to utilise masculinity, exert physical power and control. The Men’s Dialogue will provide amongst others, a platform to share and reflect on personal experiences, to influence men’s attitude and behavior towards GBVF.

The Men’s Dialogue will take place as follows;

Date: Tuesday, 14 November 2023
Time: 09:00
Venue: Emnotweni Arena, Mbombela, City of Mbombela Local Municipality

Members of the media are invited.
