Mpumalanga Government to honour the legacy of Nelson Mandela through humanitarian activities

Mpumalanga Premier, Ms Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane has deployed all Members of the Executive and Executive Mayors, to honour the legacy of the first democratic President, Mr Nelson Mandela, by making a positive impact in various communities throughout the Province. This year’s Mandela Day will be celebrated under the theme: “It’s in your hands” and a call to action for “Climate, Food & Solidarity”. The theme seeks to highlight the urgent challenges of food and climate change facing the people worldwide.

Premier Mtshweni-Tsipane will on Tuesday, 18 July 2023, spend 67 minutes in Thaba Chweu Local Municipality in the rural village of Matibidi, with a focused support to the local youth at the Retlakgona Youth Development Centre. The centre was established in 2014 and provides skills training programmes, and access to printing facilities for the local community.

The Premier, accompanied by the Executive Mayor of Ehlanzeni District, Cllr. Jester Sidel and Thaba Chweu’s Executive Mayor, Cllr. Friddah Nkadimeng, will proceed to the Moremela sports ground to hand over a consignment of gifts to the elderly.

  • MEC Vusi Shongwe of Community Safety, Security and Liaison – Bushbuckridge Local Municipality
  • MEC Sasekani Manzini of Health – Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Local Municipality
  • MEC Mandla Ndlovu of Public Works, Roads and Transport – Steve Tshwete Local Municipality
  • MEC Speed Mashilo of Human Settlements – Lekwa Local Municipality
  • MEC Mpumi Hlophe of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism – Emakhazeni Local Municipality
  • MEC Lindiwe Ntshalintshali of Social Development – Victor Khanye Local Municipality
  • MEC Bonakele Majuba of Education – Mkhondo Local Municipality
  • MEC Thandi Shongwe of Culture, Sports and Recreation – Govan Mbeki Local Municipality
  • MEC Busi Shiba of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs – City of Mbombela

Deputy Ministers of Education and Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Reginah Mhaule and Mr Mcebisi Skwatsha respectively, will support the Mandela day activities in the City of Mbombela Local Municipality.
