Mass funeral for the victims of Hoedspruit crash

Plans are at an advanced stage for the mass funeral service of the crash victims that happened on the 8th of February 2025 on the R40 road in Hoedspruit, in Limpopo Province.

The Mpumalanga Premier, Mr Mandla Ndlovu will address the funeral, following the gruesome accident, when a minibus taxi collided head-on with a bakkie. Of the thirteen (13) people who died at the scene, ten (10) of the occupants in the minibus taxi were residents of Acornhoek, in Bushbuckridge Local Municipality in Mpumalanga.

They were burnt beyond recognition when the vehicle they were travelling in caught fire on impact. One of the occupants in the bakkie, died later in the hospital whilst receiving treatment.

The Premier will be accompanied by MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr Jackie Macie, Executive Mayors of Ehlanzeni District and the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, Cllr. Terror Shabangu and Cllr. Lydia Moroane respectively. The Maruleng Executive Mayor, Cllr Tsheko Musolwa, will also attend the service, as a representative of the Limpopo Provincial Government.

The process of conducting the DNA tests on eight of the 10 victims has been completed, hence only eight people are being laid to rest on Sunday. The results for the two other occupants, are still outstanding.

Premier Ndlovu has conveyed condolences to the bereaved families. He further expressed gratitude to various stakeholders, such as the Road Accident Fund (RAF) the local Taxi Association, who contributed towards the support for all the families.
