Premier Mtshweni-Tsipane optimistic about efforts to bring stability in the transport sector

11 October 2022

Mpumalanga Premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane is optimistic that efforts to bring stability in the transport sector will yield the desired outcomes. This after a meeting with various transport stakeholders in Mbombela on Tuesday.

The Premier convened the meeting to address concerns raised by taxi associations, operating in Ehlanzeni District. These include among others, transportation of commuters beyond the set time and in new settlements, by the Bus Company, Buscor.

Premier Mtshweni-Tsipane deferred the meeting to Tuesday, next week for consultation. She says this will afford her and the Administration an opportunity to study the contract with a view to explore a sustainable solution, and share it with all the stakeholders in the next sitting.

The transport sector is key to the Mpumalanga Economic Reconstruction Plan (MERP), following the outbreak of COVID-19. The Premier says the stability of the sector, is a key lever for the realization of the plan and the safety of the commuters. She appealed to all the stakeholders not to resort to violence. She states that government will spare no effort to address the concerns, especially in October, the Transport Month.
