MPG expresses support for the advancement of an exploitation-free working environment

01 May 2023

The 1st of May is Workers’ day, and is devoted towards promoting awareness of their rights. As part of the workers’ day celebration, the Mpumalanga provincial government has expressed commitment to support initiatives geared towards the establishment of a working environment, free from exploitation of the working class.

The provincial government recognizes the resilience and fortitude of the working class, and view them as key stakeholders in the fight to eradicate the triple effects of poverty, unemployment and inequality.

Mpumalanga Premier, Ms Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane says the provincial government is resolute in its commitment to promote workers’ rights until the objective of an exploitation-free working environment is achieved. “Over the years, our provincial government devoted efforts and resources towards the promotion of workers’ rights. The paradigm shift is evident. This workers’ day celebration, propels us to advance the commitment until the objective is achieved,” the Premier stated.

Mtshweni-Tsipane says workers’ contribution towards the fight against the triple effects of poverty, unemployment and inequality, cannot be contested. She says entrenching a working environment compliant to the standards of the basic human rights, is a crucial pillar to re-ignite the provincial economy, as set out in the Mpumalanga Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan (MERRP).
