Premier Mtshweni-Tsipane visits a Training Academy for Business Enterprise in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam

17 August 2023

The Premier, accompanied by MEC Thandi Shongwe of Culture, Sport and Recreation and the South African Ambassador to Vietnam, Ms Vuyiswa Tulelo, visited the academy outside Hanoi in Vietnam, where medicinal herbs are processed. She says Mpumalanga is the backbone of agriculture and as such, the establishment of an academy to enhance business skills of women and the youth in the Province, for the value chain of medicinal herbs and tea, is crucial.

“Mpumalanga has embarked on a jobs massification programme, to create ninety thousand (90 000) jobs. This visit is timely as we explore measures to achieve this target. The academy is an eye-opener, and if we replicate this business model in Mpumalanga, we can make a dent to the high unemployment rate,” Mtshweni-Tsipane explained.

The Premier said Mpumalanga is already at an implementation stage of job creation programmes, which include the Premier’s Youth Development Fund, Fortune 40 and Sakha bakhi, a programme for women in construction. “Our plan is to support self-sustainable businesses, that contribute to job creation. We view this academy in Vietnam as a template to build a case on in Mpumalanga,” Mtshweni-Tsipane emphasised.

Today marks the final day of the Premier’s visit to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
