MANANA RESPONDS TO
THE EXISTENCE OF THE SO CALLED “HITLIST”
Media Statement
09 February 2010
On Friday 05, 2010, the Office of MEC
Sibongile Manana in the Department of
Community Safety, Security and Liaison
received a fax from a local internet
shop in Nelspruit. The fax had a list of
ten individuals who were allegedly
targeted for assassination by a group of
unknown people.
The names include those of the late
Sammy Mphatlanyane and Jimmy Mohlala. A
copy of the fax has been sent to the
police in order to form part of the
investigations being conducted
pertaining to the speculations of the
existence of a hit list in the province.
MEC Manana takes the matter of the
existence of the list very seriously and
that is the reason she requested the
office of the provincial commissioner to
speed up investigations into this
matter, and not to lose focus on recent
murder cases.
At this stage, the department is not
sure whether the fax represents the
alleged “genuine list” because the
sender did not leave details that could
assist the department to make contact
with him.
The department requests that the people
who are listed on newspapers as part of
the list of people to be assassinated
should remain calm as the police are
working day and night to ascertain the
truth behind the speculations, and to
arrest whoever wants to harm another
person.
Anybody who has more information
regarding this matter can visit the
nearest police station or contact the
police on 086 000 10111 or the MEC’s
Office on 013 766 4075.
