MEC Shongwe commends police for
arresting women’s murder suspects
Media Statement 07 November 2011
Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security
and Liaison MEC, Vusi Shongwe has
praised the Piet Retief police for the
swift arrest of women’s murder suspects,
saying that the arrest will send a
strong message to residents of the
province that criminals have no place in
the community.
Four suspects in their early twenties
were arrested shortly after two half
naked and stabbed bodies of women in
their mid twenties were found in an open
field next to a dump in Thandukukhanya
Township in Piet Retief on Saturday [05
November 2011].
The two bodies were discovered by the
community, who alerted the police.
“Police will not rest until all unwanted
criminals are removed in the community.
With the help of the community, the
police will make sure that such
incidences do not happen again,” said
Shongwe.
He appealed to the Department of Justice
to make sure that if the suspects are
indeed guilty, they use all the laws
available in the country to punish them
severely.
Meanwhile, Shongwe pleaded with the
community of Thandukukhanya and the
relatives of the deceased to remain calm
and not to take the law into their own
hands while the police investigate the
case.
He further urged the community to work
together with the police to ensure a
safe and crime free festive season by
reporting any criminal activity to the
police.
