Shongwe supports hard working police
Media Statement
08 June 2011 Mpumalanga Safety,
Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe
says he will close his ears on people
who will complain to him about
ill-treatment by the police when they
were at the tarvens.
He says he is willing to listen to those
who would complain about the pose
behavior at the churches.
Speaking during an award-giving ceremony
for best performing police officers in
the province by the Police Provincial
Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thulani
Ntobela on Friday, Shongwe said he would
support the police as long as they would
be fighting crime.
Shongwe said the people who complained
about police were those who were always
on the wrong side of the law.
“We will continue to strive and fight
for a better and crime free province.
The police’s service delivery is nothing
other than to arrest the wrong doers,”
he said.
Shongwe has also thanked the Provincial
Commissioner, saying the performance of
the police in the province has improved
compared to the other years.
He said that the communities outside
should be warned that the police will
not rest until the killings of other
police officers have ended.
Shongwe added that community members
must protect police as they are also
community members with families to
provide for.
Speaking in the same event was
Provincial Commissioner Ntobela who said
that corruption by police officers will
not be tolerated in the force.
Ntobela concluded that there are 200
cases of corruption already reported in
the province, and that shows the
seriousness of the crime.
