MEC Shongwe to hand over a house to cancer victim
Media Statement
09 May 2011
Mpumalanga Safety, Security and Liaison, MEC
Vusi Shongwe will tomorrow hand over a house to a
cervical cancer victim.
The house has been built for the ailing single mother
of six Ms Funeka Sambo whose plight appeared in a local
Lowveld newspaper [Mpumalanga News]. The newspaper quoted
her as an ailing woman who was battling to find a government
house after having been on a waiting list since 2008.
After reading about Ms Sambo, a Mpumalanga self emerging
contractor Mr Sipho Busani decided to build and donate the
house in honour of his late brother who died of prostate cancer
early this year.
A two bed-roomed worth well-over R120 000 with an open space
sitting room and a kitchen, shower and a toilet was built near
the mud-house Ms Sambo had been living in.
According to Busani, Sambo’s house has been built in an area which does
not have water although the mud-house had been electrified. He has moreover
donated a 2.500litre water-tank in order for Sambo to have access to clean water and be able to utilize her built-in toilet.
The media is invited to a hand over that will take place as follows:
