Department to conduct school debates for

Mpumalanga Department of Safety,
Security and Liaison will hold school
provincial debates aimed at educating
the learners about road safety through
an interactive and academic approach.
The Provincial Debates on Road Safety
project was initiated in 2004 following
escalating statistics of road fatalities
which involved young people aged from
Road Safety Debates is therefore
dedicated to young road users who
utilize the roads as pedestrians,
cyclists, motorcyclists, novice drivers
The campaign targets the learners from
secondary and combined schools. Topics
vary from pedestrian safety, traffic law
enforcement, effectiveness of traffic
regulations, effectiveness of road
safety, Administrative Adjudication of
Road Traffic Offences [AARTO] and other
road safety related ideas.
The provincial competition comprises of
the winners from all four Mpumalanga
regions namely Ehlanzeni, Bohlabelo,
Gert Sibande and Nkangala.
Provincial winners will further compete
nationally with other provinces.
Debate competitions was first introduced
by Mpumalanga Province and has scooped
national competitions in 2007 and 2010.
