Safety and Security MEC,
Honourable Fish Mahlalela led a
Foot Patrol on Friday, 10 August
2007. The MEC was accompanied by
KaNyamazane Station
Commissioner, Assistant
Commissioner Nhlavu Dlamini,
Chief Director for
implementation, Ms. Nontsundu
Ndonga, Mbombela Public Safety
Councillor, Elvis Dludlu as well
as local CPF and volunteers from
the community.
Speaking before the commencement
of the patrol, the MEC said the
war against crime will be won if
the community continue to work
hand in hand with the police. He
said criminals who are a
minority cannot continue to rule
over a majority. Streets must be
claimed back from the criminals.
This patrol was a culmination of
the community meeting held in
KaNyamazane to discuss ways in
which to reduce the levels of
crime in the township. Among
others, one illegal shebeen was
closed, one person arrested in
connection with illegal
possession of dagga and one
police officer was arrested and
charged for drunken driving a
state vehicle.
The patrol targeted mainly five
flashpoints areas that were
identified by the community.
KaNyamazane has further been
identified as one of the areas
that contributes adversely in
the provincial crime statistics
that were released recently.
The patrol is one of the many
initiatives that the department
is participating with the
communities and other
stakeholders in the fight
against crime. Community
participation is a cornerstone
of the battle against crime.
