Legal Drugs

Medicine

Doctors prescribe medicine to sick people. Medicine can be bought from pharmacies. It is not legal or safe to use medicine any way you want, it should be taken according to your prescription or the recommended dosage.

Cigarettees and Alcohol

Smoking and excessive drinking are not healthy for adults and are off limits to children.

Illegal Drugs

  • Ecstasy
  • Cocaine
  • LSD
  • Heroin

Why are Illegal Drugs Dangerous?

  • Illegal drugs can cause damage to the: - Brain - Heart - Other important organs

  • While using drugs, a person is less able to do will in: - School - Sport - Every day activities

  • It is often hard to think clearly and make good decisions

  • People can do dumb or dangerous things that court hurt themselves or other people, when using drugs.

Why do people use illegal drugs?

  • Peer pressure
  •  Boredom
  •  Escape reality

Drugs do not solve problems. Using drugs only causes more problems like ADDICTION. Once addicted, it is very hard to stop taking drugs. Stopping can cause withdrawal symptoms such as:

  • Vomiting
  • Sweating
  • Tremor

How do you tell if someone is using illegal drugs?

Some of the signs may include:

  • A loss of interest in school / daily activities
  • Change of friends
  • Mood swings
  • Negative attitude
  • Sleep a lot
  • Red or puffy eyes
  • Lose or gain weight
  • Verbally and physically abusive
  • Depressed and less outgoing
  • Secretive
  • Withdrawn from family

What can you do to help?

If you think that someone is using drugs, the best thing to do is to tell someone you trust:

  • Teacher
  • Counsellor
  •  Parent / Guardian 

A person might need professional help and by doing something about it you could save a life.
