Masango Condemns the Slaying of
Police Officer
06 June 2008
The Mpumalanga Safety and
Security MEC, Honourable
Siphosezwe Masango condemns the
senseless murder of the SAPS
Policeman, Captain Million
Khumalo by a rogue murderer who
was out on parole.
Masango, however applauded the
bravery displayed by Khumalo
who, although critically injured
from the murderer’s gun shot,
continued to run after him and
shot him dead.
Khumalo was a Branch Commander
for the Detectives at
Komatipoort Police Station and
was on the heels of the suspect
for an attempted murder case
when the incident happened in
Daantjie.
MEC Masango sends his heartfelt
condolences to the Khumalo
family, relatives and friends
and his colleagues for this
unnecessary loss of life.
Masango has further appealed to
all law enforcing officials to
remain vigilant and extremely
careful at all times when
apprehending suspects or
criminals so that incidents like
this does not happen in future.
“It is my belief that the
subsequent shooting which led to
the suspect’s death, will assist
in sending out the message to
other criminals and would be
criminals that crime does not
pay. Police will shoot to kill
any armed and dangerous criminal
who poses danger to them and the
community”, said Masango.
Masango has appealed to members
of the community to continue
working with the police in an
attempt to create conditions of
safety for all our people. He
encouraged other police officers
to be dedicated to protecting
communities and that incidents
like this should not dampen
their spirit in fighting against
crime.
