High Court dismisses baseless claims

The Pretoria High Court today, 14 May 2008 dismissed the case put forward by the seven disgruntled security companies who claimed that the department had unfairly awarded a three-year security contract to undeserving companies.

The Court dismissed the case with costs and the companies will have to pay legal fees.

This comes after the seven companies applied for an urgent interdict after the department awarded a tender for the provision of security services to government sites. The interdict was issued on 29 April 2008 and the allocation of sites to the newly appointed security companies was suspended with immediate effect.

The department has been saying that the allegations brought forward about the tender adjudication were baseless and unfounded and the court confirmed that the department was correct.

The department thanks all the stakeholders who were affected by the court interdict for exercising patience, and in the context of business unusual, we urge the appointed security companies to be at their respective sites, providing security services as from tomorrow.
