MESSAGE OF SUPPORT DURING RAMADAN AND DEEPAVALI
THIS month Muslims and Hindus in Mpumalanga, South Africa
and the world over, are engaged in two significant events in the world's
religious calendar, Ramadan and Deepavali.
Ramadan is a month of self-denial, struggle, discipline, caring for the less
fortunate and character building. These are some of the qualities we sorely need
as a province as we reconstruct our country and in so doing create that better
life for all, especially the poor.
Deepavali, celebrated by Hindus, symbolises the victory of good over evil,
enlightenment and duty.
The noble values symbolised by these two events are not dissimilar from the
values underpinning this government, especially its commitment to create a
better life for all through the building of a people's contract to create work
and fight poverty.
These values lie at the heart of our call for moral regeneration and the
intensification of the efforts to root out corruption and consolidate good
governance.
May I, on behalf of the Government and the people of Mpumalanga, take this
opportunity to wish our Muslim community well over the fast, while wishing the
Hindu community a happy Deepavali. May you continue to experience the
benevolence of God in your journey of renewal of the heart and mind and may the
coming year be filled with success, prosperity and harmony.
