The Executive Council (Cabinet) of Mpumalanga province at its meeting in Burgersfort on Wednesday, 12 October 2005 has adopted a process and institutional design for the provincial African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) of NEPAD and the African Union. This includes a provincial consultative conference in November 2005, which will be followed by a national consultative conference. The MEC for Public Works, Candith Mashego-Dlamini will lead this process in Mpumalanga.

The purpose of the APRM is to foster the adoption of appropriate laws, policies, standards and practices that lead to political stability, high economic growth, sustainable development and accelerated sub-regional and economic integration. This must be achieved through the sharing of best practices.

Cabinet also approved the appointment of a new Mpumalanga Operating licensing Board. The functions of the Board are to receive, consider and decide on or otherwise dispose of applications for the granting of operating licenses intra-provincial transport. They are:

    •  Mr. Nyambeni Wilson Mudau

    •  Ms Florence Dibuseng Mthembu

    •  Mr. Mohamed Fazel Ismail

    •  Mr. Bhekumuzi Leonard Mavuso

    •  Mr. Ishaq Osman

    •  Mr. Sop Captain Ntuli

    •  Ms Emily Ellie Khubeka

The appointment of Mr. Mudau as chairperson of the Board for a period of three years on a full time capacity is effective on 17 October 2005.

The Premier, Thabang Makwetla, and Cabinet would like to wish all the learners starting with their matric exams tomorrow the best of wishes in this gigantic challenge that is important for their future and the role they will play in developing the country.
