MAKWETLA LAUNCHES ECONOMIC ADVISORY COUNCIL

The inaugural meeting of Premier Thabang Makwetla's Economic Advisory Council (EAC) will take place tomorrow 18 January 2005 at the Hackle Lodge, Dullstroom, Mpumalanga.

The EAC consists of eminent business people, labour leaders and economists selected by the Premier in order to advise him about strategies and solutions for addressing economic development challenges facing Mpumalanga.

The Council meeting will discuss and advise the Premier on global and national economic trends and their implications for the provincial economy.

The Council will also reflect on economy wide and sectoral initiatives for moving Mpumalanga to a higher and equitable economic trajectory.

Deliberations will also add to preparations for the Provincial Growth and Development Summit (PGDS) to be held on the 7-8 February 2005.

Mr Ayanda Bam – Chairperson of the Mpumalanga Investment Initiative's Board and Chairperson of Kuyasa Mining.

Mr Dave Martin – Managing Director of Columbus Steel

Mr Laurie Bosman – President of Agri(SA)

Mr Marinus sieberhagen – Managing Director of SASOL Synfuels

Mr Anrchie Palane – Deputy General Secretary of the National Union of Mineworkers.

Mr Lumkile Mondi – Chief Economist Industrial Development Corporation.

It is envisaged that the EAC will assist government in its efforts of ensuring that the provincial economy matches its true potential and expand opportunities for developments.
