Tribute to Ray Mhlaba
It is with a deep sense of grief that we learnt of the passing on of another stalwart and great revolutionary leader of our struggle for freedom and democracy.
Throughout his life, Oom Ray has occupied a pivotal role in the people’s movement (ANC) and contributed immensely in the struggle to bring about a better South Africa and a just a world order.
His undying spirit of resistance and commitment to freedom was subjected to many turbulent trials that included isolation, prison and torture.
His sacrifices, like those of his peers, have given us the possibility to transform South Africa into a nation of peace, democracy and economic development.
We commit to honour their collective memory through emulating their values of selflessness, courage, service and discipline.
As we mourn the loss of this precious son of Africa, the government and the people of Mpumalanga wishes to extend condolences to the Mhlaba family, as well as to the people and the Government of Eastern Cape Province.
Your loss is our loss.
May his soul rest in peace.
