 THE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING

The Executive Council congratulated ‘Die Bokke' on their historic victory over England on Saturday October 20 2007 at the Rugby World Cup Final in France . The Executive Council said above being world champions they have made South Africans proud and elevated the status of our country internationally. Furthermore this second world cup victory has once more proved beyond any reasonable doubt how sports can unite us as a nation. The Executive Council observed that the national support for ‘Die Bokke' on the day of play and their reception at OR Tambo International Airport on Tuesday 23 October 2007 when they came back to the country were unprecedented.

The Executive Council said that as we celebrate the victory of ‘Die Bokke' there must be a conscious effort by SARFU to integrate and transform rugby as we prepare to defend the Herb Williams trophy in 2011. In view of the massive support that was shown on Saturday at the Lowveld Sports Ground to ‘Die Bokke' the Executive Council has expressed a deep desire that the Springboks must also visit the province as part of their national tour.

The Executive Council expressed its condolences to the family of Lucky Dube, the national and international reggae icon who was slain in an alleged botched high-jacking. They also praised the police for the speedy arrest of the alleged perpetrators of this dastardly act. A moment of silence was observed by Executive Council in respect and memory of Lucky Dube.

The Executive Council approved the Integrated 2010 World Cup Office so that it can begin functioning optimally in a number of specialized areas in order to deliver on its mandates as contained in the 2010 Integrated Master Plan.

The Executive Council also approved that the Social Services Cluster to form a partnership with SABC-AMAHA and KWAITO Nation to hold a festival to support child-headed households from 09-10 November 2007 at Nkangala District at Sy Mthimunye Stadium. The AMAHA have established a programme under the theme ‘Ekasi Sivukile Social Responsibility' which is a national campaign to address the social ills affecting the youth and vulnerable children.

Furthermore the Executive Council approved that Mr. Frederick Rufetu, a teacher based at King Makhosoke II High School in Kwamhlanga to be part of the Fulbright Teacher Programme in the 2008 academic year.

The Provincial Cabinet also approved a study visit in Japan for the training in Mathematics and Science education from 31 October to 10 December 2007 for curriculum implementers and school-based cluster leaders from various parts of the province.

The Executive Council expressed satisfaction on the decision granted by the full Bench of the High Court in the judgement on Hoerskool Ermelo versus Department of Education. The court dismissed with costs the application of the school. Furthermore the Executive Council observed that the judgement provides an opportunity for more learners to be admitted at the school for the 2008 academic year.

The Executive Council approved the following appointments:

•  Ms Gladness Jabu Majola as the senior manager: governance and education in the Office of the Premier. She is currently the regional manager at GCIS: Mpumalanga Nelspruit, where she is responsible for general provincial office administration and management.

•  Mr. Tsundzuka Abel Rikhotso as senior manager: management accounting (health) in the Department of Health and Social Services. He is currently employed as manager in Office of the Premier in Limpopo Province .

The Executive Council congratulated the Thaba Chweu municipality political and administrative leadership for stabilizing the situation in the municipality. Ms Candith Mashego-Dlamini the MEC for Local Government and Housing said that should this stability continue the Executive Council would consider reviewing Section 139 which was imposed on the municipality due to the instability.
