THABA CHWEU MUNICIPALITY SUSPENDS THREE OFFICIALS

The MEC for the Department of Local Government and Housing Mr. Jabu Mahlangu has welcomed the arrests of one senior and two junior officials in the Thaba Chweu municipality allegedly implicated in fraudulent activities. The three officials from the finance department were suspended for allegedly stealing prepaid electricity, banking incorrect incomes daily, which resulted in the municipality losing over R100 000 per month.

After a receiving a request from the Administrator, MEC Jabu Mahlangu has requested Forensic Auditors from the Premiers office to go and investigate the alleged irregularities. Investigations are continuing to determine the extent of the loss.

"The Department is impressed with progress made by the Administrator, Grace Castle and her team and remains committed to ensuring that it assists Thaba Chweu in its efforts to rid itself of all corruption and maladministration. There is great potential for Thaba Chweu. Business, Investors and the Community, continue to show confidence in the municipality", says Mahlangu.
