T Makwetla to open PGDS Summit

Mpumalanga Premier Thabang Makwetla will officially open a two-day summit
to review the Provincial Growth and Development Strategy (PGDS) on Thursday,
4 September 2008, at Emnotweni Arena in Nelspruit.
The purpose of the summit is to review the current PGDS which was launched in
February 2005. The process of reviewing the current PGDS has ensured that
Macro Design addresses all key developmental areas underpinned by the
principles of governance and special planning.
The summit will finalise the PGDS framework which will provide an integrated,
coordinated guideline for economic growth and development and a tool for
addressing poverty as a priority. Participants will come from both national
and provincial departments, NGOs, CBOs, paratatals, academic institutions
and donor partners.
MECs, Mayors, Councillors and senior governmental officials are expected to
participate in this important process.
