18 September 2012

Mpumalanga Premier David Mabuza has welcomed Dr Nonhlanhla Mkhize who has been appointed the interim Director-General for the Mpumalanga Administration.

Dr Mkhize is a former Director-General of the national Department of Women, Children and Persons with Disabilities.

Dr Mkhize’s transfer to Mpumalanga follows a mutual agreement between Premier Mabuza, Minister of Public Service and Administration Lindiwe Sisulu and Minister of Women, Children and Persons with Disabilities Lulu Xingwana.

Premier Mabuza has regarded Dr Mkhize’s transfer as “increasing capacity” in the Mpumalanga Provincial Government.

“We welcome Dr Mkhize’s transfer to our province; we trust that whilst she closes the gap between the administration and the executive council, she will also contribute greatly in ensuring the effectiveness of the provincial government in delivering the services to our people.
“We appreciate the national government’s efforts of spreading its resources where there are capacity challenges to strengthen our operations as provinces,” said Premier Mabuza.

While the search for a steady Director-General in the province continues, Dr Mkhize will be working on the position for the remainder of the former Director-General’s contract [Mr Jacob Rabodila] which was set to come to an end on 31 December 2012.

The Premier wishes Dr Mkhize success in administering the provincial administration with both her extensive academic and public sector experience.

We trust that her presence and contribution will go a long way in impacting positively in the lives of the citizens and that she will meet the expectations in ensuring a sustained success and growth.

Dr Mkhize previously worked as a senior lecturer at the University of Zululand for ten years and had held senior management positions in the Department of Arts and Culture.

In year 2002, she joined the Office of the Premier in KwaZulu-Natal where she was in charge for the offices responsible for the Status on Women and Disabled Persons, Rights of Children and Older Persons and Youth.

In 2010, she was seconded to the Ministry for Women, Children and People with Disabilities to lead the processes of establishing governance and support the implementation of the strategic plan for the establishment of the new department.

Accepting her transfer Dr Mkhize appreciated the opportunity afforded to her and that she hoped she had joined a winning team that would assist the Premier and the provincial government deliver the services.

“I would like to appreciate the opportunity afforded to me and wish to express my commitment in servicing the people and the provincial government of Mpumalanga to the best of my ability,” said Dr Mkhize.
She called on employees in the province to adhere to professionalism and to ensure the provincial government’s corporate culture and image.
“I would like to inculcate the spirit of giving it all in our work, and that we should go an extra mile in supporting the Premier in his agenda. I hope we will work as a family, defend the integrity of the provincial government,” said Dr Mkhize.
