Premier Mabuza to host Oman delegation

22 November 2013

Mpumalanga Premier David Mabuza will as from Monday host a nine-member delegation from the Sultanate of Oman to explore trade and investment opportunities between the two provinces.

The visit by Oman delegation is expected to strengthen the relations between the two provinces that started in 2011 which identified areas of cooperation on agriculture, industrial development, and social and cultural ties.

The primary interest of the Mpumalanga Provincial Government will be to respond to the import needs of the Oman government to deal with their food security challenges.

 Currently, South Africa and Oman enjoy a long standing relationship on a number of areas of cooperation which include military cooperation, science and technology and education. South Africa’s bilateral trade with Oman remains very low and there are no major investments in either country.

 Again at a provincial level, Oman and Mpumalanga have not taken advantage of available economic opportunities. Therefore the visit by Oman presents an opportunity to identify concrete projects for joint collaboration. The delegation is scheduled to hold discussions with various provincial departments and government entities and visit a number of agricultural projects around the province.

Premier Mabuza visited Oman in September 2011.

The media is invited for a photo opportunity and introductory remarks by Premier Mabuza and the head of the delegation scheduled as follows;

Time: 12h00

Venue: Nelspruit, Government Complex, Office of the Premier, Building 2, 2nd Floor, Media Room
