Member of Executive Council: Mr Bonakele Majuba


MEC, Bonakele Majuba matriculated at Mehlomakhulu Senior Secondary School and obtained his Senior Teachers Diploma with the then Transvaal College of Education in 1991.

He practiced as a teacher from 1991 until 2000 at St Joseph's Comprehensive School. In 2001 he was elected as the SADTU Regional Secretary for the Western Regional Office (KwaMhlanga) and served until 2006 wherein he was elected as the SADTU Deputy Provincial Secretary.

In 2004 he was elected as SACP District Chairperson for Ephraim Mogale District. In the period 2007 to 2008, he was deployed as the Acting Provincial Secretary of SADTU and was later in 2008 elected as the Deputy President of SADTU. He discharged his national responsibility until 2009, when he was deployed to serve as a Member of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature by the African National Congress. In the same year, 2009 he was elected the Provincial Secretary of SACP, Mpumalanga. A position he is currently serving on.

In the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature he served in nine (9) portfolio committees between 2009 and 2014 which amongst them are SCOPA, and the Portfolio Committee Responsible for Education. He chaired the Portfolio Committee on Public Works, Roads and Transport (2009 – 2012). Between 2014 and 2018 he further served in the Education portfolio and other four (4) Committees. In March 2018, he was elected as the Deputy Speaker for the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature.

Despite his deployment and responsibilities, he continued to equip himself with education as he furthered his studies with Wits University and Regeneysis respectively. He is a seasoned people servant having spent most of his leadership years as a SADTU leader in the Education sector.

On 29 May 2019, the Premier of Mpumalanga, Mrs. RM Tsipane appointed Mr. Bonakele Majuba as the MEC for Education in Mpumalanga.
