MEC Adopted School Circuit Shines at Awards
The MEC for Economic Development Environment and Tourism,
Mr. NM Mokoena awarded 23 schools of the Arthurseat circuit,
Bohlabela region for their school performance in 2010. This was
done during the MEC‘s Excellence Awards Ceremony, held on the 28
February 2011 at Nazarene Mission Church (Bushbuckridge).
He acknowledged the learners who have excelled in the 2010 matric
examination, schools that have improved and deserving educators.
The MEC also motivated and encouraged learners who did not do well
in the past year.
The best school in the circuit: LEKETE with 61.9 % matric pass rate
in 2010
The best learner in the circuit: KHOZA J from PULEDI School passed with 75 %
Commenting on the learner’s results MEC Mokoena said, “Looking back
and perusing the results of the past two years, I can proudly say the
circuit was able to achieve an improvement of at least 8.1 per cent.
The improvement is however not sufficient - we need to improve more in
the current academic year.”
Ms. G. Themba during her motivational speech encouraged students to
enter into careers of engineering, “I encourage all of you especially
women to further their studies in the engineering field. Become engineers,
scientists, chattered accountants.
The MEC supported her by saying “Our young democracy is in dire need of
scarce skills such as Civil Engineers, Chattered Accountants, Economists,
Educators specialising in Science and Maths, Aviation officers, tooling
manufactures amongst others. We therefore need to nurture the areas of
our economy, which serve as a backbone for its sustainability and constant
socio-economic growth.”
As the ceremony drew to a close the MEC left the attendants with a few
words of encouragement, “Working together as parents, educators, learners
and the community at large, we can do more to better the performance of our matriculants.”
