We will green Mpumalanga - Mokoena


An agricultural Co-operative’s efforts have been praised by the Department when it donated 50 baobab trees to the Department.

The ‘’Boabab‘’ tree is highly rated in South Africa in that a National order, The Order of the Baobab for Distinguished Service is named after it, and several prominent people were awarded with the order. Those include Cyril Ramaphosa, Roelf Meyer, Wisemen Nkhulu, Richard Maponya, Adelaide Tambo, Rev Njengonkulu Dandala ,Moses Mabhida to name but a few.

Accepting the tress on behalf of the province, MEC Mokoena said, “ The Co-operative is truly unique as it encouraged residents to adopt ideas to develop communities.

‘’The donation of the trees serves as an example of what government wants to promote: government, communities and business working together to improve our environment. With this gesture of donating those trees to the Department, the Co-operative joins the ever growing movement to green Mpumalanga, ‘’ said MEC Norman Mokoena.

Bushbubuckridge Executive Mayor Clr Renius Khumalo added by warning illegal sand miners to stop the illegal practice because it was bad for the environment.

“On behalf of the people Bushbuckridge I urge communities to start forming Co-operatives so that they can fight poverty,” said Khumalo.

Chairperson of the Agricultural Co-operative Mr Nxumalo, promised the people of Bushbuckridge that his Co-operative will continue to be the ambassador of greening the province.

“We would like to thank Brian Kajengo who had an idea of planting indigenous trees to conserve our environment, and with what we have started, we will continue with our efforts to plant more indigenous trees,” said Mr Nxumalo.

The Agricultural Co- operatives consists of 12 members, and appeals to national government departments, private sector and municipalities to assist them with training and financial support.
