Results of by-election that took place in Ward 2 of Govan Mbeki Municipality

The Electoral Commission in Mpumalanga said that the ANC has retained the ward in the by-elections which took place on Wednesday, 1 August 2012 in Govan Mbeki
- Ward 2 was contested by Danisile Lebo Tlou of the African National Congress (ANC), Johannes Banele Nkabinde of the Democratic Alliance (DA) and Punkie Angel Emily Thamaga of the Congress of the People (COPE).
- The African National Congress (ANC) won by 68.59%, the Democratic Alliance (DA) got 30.55% of the votes and the Congress of the People (COPE) got 0.86%
- The overall voter turnout was 43.72%
