Ladies and gentlemen

I am greatly humbled ladies and gentlemen by the invitation to welcome all the delegates to this Congress as the Chairperson of our ANC in our region of Gert Sibande.

It gives me a great honour indeed to stand before you while as the organization; we are hard at work, launching our branches throughout the province in preparation for the 2012 Mangaung Conference.

In my capacity as an MEC for Safety, Security and Liaison, I am equally excited to welcome delegates to this Congress shortly after the announcement of crime statistics.

Our province did exceptionally well in terms of the fight against crime, we managed to reduce it drastically. The reduction in crime was as a result of men and women who are amongst us here.

Could we please give the men and women in blue uniform a round of applause for putting our province on the map for the good reason?

Ladies and gentlemen, although there is still a long way to go in ensuring that the people of South Africa ARE safe and FEEL safe, I am confident to say we are moving in the right direction.

Our province, under the leadership of Lieutenant General Ntobela has managed to improve its performance.  The reduction on crime statistics was just not a surprise, but was the results of committed, passionate and hard working police officers.

It is an honour again to welcome you to this Congress ladies and gentlemen as some of the delegates are my officials from my department.

This follows a successful transfer of Traffic Management in June from Public Works, Roads and Transport to my department.

The invitation to give welcoming remarks could not have come at a better time than now, when myself as an MEC, I want my department to have a good relationship with POPCRU as a union and as a stakeholder.

We need to consult each other on labour issues from time to time in an effort to promote unity amongst the staff members.

I am publicly extending an invitation to POPCRU to interact directly with me or the department under the leadership of the Head of the Department Mr Thulani Sibuyi.

I am also looking forward to seeing you at our departmental events as our stakeholder.

In conclusion ladies and gentlemen, as an MEC for Mpumalanga Safety, Security and Liaison, I wish to convey my support for this Congress.

On the other hand, as the Regional Chairperson of the ANC in Gert Sibande, I am welcoming all of you to this Congress.

I trust that you will engage fruitfully, as your deliberations will also assist us as government in handling the affairs of your members.

I thank you for your attention.
