MEC Norman Mokoena meets with Steve Tshwete community task team and
other community structures
4 September 2009
The MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr Norman
Mokoena has met with the community task team of Steve Tshwete (ward 1 and 23) to
hear the grievances that are being raised by the community in that area.
The task team has raised a number of issues around service delivery.
These issues include the finalisation of the status of the settlements (whether
its formal or informal), one communal tap servicing about thirty households,
about four households sharing iron toilet, different families being allocated on
the same stand, a make shift clinic which has no privacy for patients being
treated, problems with housing waiting list as people have been registered for
many years but there are still no houses, high crime rate and hostel residents
who were moved out to make way for renovations but were not allocated back
instead new people were allocated the units.
After listening to the grievances, MEC Mokoena requested the task team
to give the department an opportunity to deal with the challenges. It was then
agreed that all forms of mass action by the community would be suspended and the
MEC will return to the community at the end of September 2009 to give them
feedback on the issues that they have raised.
MEC Mokoena has also reiterated government's commitment to working the
community to deal with the issues and ensure that quality services are delivered
to our people.
