Department conducts audit on boreholes project
The Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional
affairs has completed an evaluation of all the 68 boreholes that were drilled
and equipped by it in the three Districts in the province, as part of its
boreholes project. The evaluation was to assess the quality of the work
performed, review the project implementation especially the extent to which the
activities as specified in the original agreement have been implemented value
for money and status of boreholes.
The evaluation report has indicated that all boreholes
have been completed. Of the 68 boreholes, 41 are functional, 14 are not
functional due to poor workmanship and 13 are not functional because water has
run dry in those areas. The department has written to the service providers who
have not delivered quality services requesting them to show cause why the
department should not take action against them. Necessary and appropriate action
will then be taken.
