Motorists urged to exercise patience as major road works are underway

The Mpumalanga Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport is urging motorists travelling in some of the provincial roads where road works are in progress to exercise patience and take extra precaution, in a bid to avoid road accidents. This comes after the rainy weather conditions that continue to prevail in some parts of the province causing delays in the completion of the construction process.
The department is busy with the construction, resealing and patching of potholes within major roads around the Ehlanzeni, Gert Sibande, Nkangala and Bohlabela district. Where major construction is taking place, precautionary measures have been put in place as by-pass roads have been created. The temporary roads have been built for the free flow of traffic until the permanent roads are completed. The stop and go signs have been erected where major maintenance process are done, therefore drivers are urged not to speed but instead drive within the specified speed limit.
Road users should expect delays along roads that are currently under construction and they include amongst others the upgrading of the D3969 and D3974 between Kildare and Cumming Moore and Rolle- Oakley phase 2 which is a 11km road. The upgrading of 9,3km D2976 road between Daantjie and Mpakeni is also underway. The 13,4km Machipe and Bundu D2916 road would be tarred as it is currently a gravel. The upgrading of the 18,5km Marloth Park and Komatipoort road is almost complete and will soon be open for traffic. Road users should also expect delays along the D2964 road between Diepdale and Swaziland border which is at least 9,6km. The upgrading of D481 between Mooiplass and Ekulindeni which is 9.6km will also be completed soon. In addition, the department is busy with the rehabilitation and reconstruction of coal haulage routes. All the projects are expected to be complete by the end of the current financial year; therefore road users are urged to exercise patience.
