Academically sharp students get opportunities to pursue studies
31 October 2011
The National Department of Human Settlements in partnership with Provincial Departments invites applications from well performing matriculants who wish to further their studies and pursue careers within the broader human settlements related fields with studies commencing in the 2012 academic year. The scholarship is aimed at addressing skills development and acquisition through sponsoring well performing students from previously disadvantaged communities in designated and prioritised fields of housing and construction related studies.
The scholarship is in line with and supports the
objectives of both the National Skills Development Strategy as well as the South
African Human Resource Development Strategy. The outcome of the programme is to
produce a crop of highly competent housing practitioners and professionals. The
scholarship covers all projected expenses within the scholarship agreement. The
prioritised undergraduate fields of study could include but are not limited to
areas focusing on: Civil Engineering, Town and Regional Planning, Architecture,
Architectural Technology, Construction Management, Land Surveying, Environmental
Studies, Building Surveying, Project Management amongst others. It is envisaged
that well performing students will assist government after completion of their
studies in improving service delivery of human settlements.
Successful candidates will be expected to enter into a
scholarship agreement entailing participation in compulsory experiential
learning and a service contract after the completion of studies. The scholarship
covers all project expenses in the scholarship agreement. This programme will be
an investment for government in future programmes. Successful students will not
only get themselves jobs but also change the meaning of the Department’s mandate
of the delivery of integrated human settlements. Taking part in
the acquisition and development of such skills, the previously disadvantaged
communities will also improve the lives of those poor communities and bring
economic development to broader communities.
Interested students should meet requirement and apply
on/before the 18TH NOVEMBER 2011 to The Director
