Premier David Mabuza and MEC Norman Mokoena visit Thaba Chweu Local Municipality
The Premier of Mpumalanga,
Mr David Mabuza and the MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional
Affairs, Mr Norman Mokoena have visited the Thaba Chweu Local Municipality.
The Premier and the MEC met with the community representatives to discuss
the challenges in the area. At the meeting it was agreed that a technical
committee be set up that will look at the issues that have been raised by
the community. The committee will comprise of representatives from the
Premiers Office, Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional
Affairs, Ehlanzeni District Municipality, and Thaba Chweu Local
Municipality. This committee will engage with the community as it seeks to
deal with the challenges in the area.
In as far as the forensic
investigations into the illicit electronic funds transfers, the
investigations are continuing. Significant progress has been made and it is
expected that the investigations will be completed shortly.
MEC Norman Mokoena has
expressed satisfaction with the meeting and is confident that the issues
will be dealt with. “As government we are satisfied with the performance and
functionality of the municipality, despite the challenges that have been
raised by the community. We want to assure the community that we will work
with them to deal with the issues and we will ensure that quality services
are delivered to our people” said Mokoena. He further condemned the unwarranted violence,
malicious destruction of property, disrespect of the rule of law and the
violation of the rights of law abiding citizens by certain residents of
Thaba Chweu municipality who paraded as protesters.
He has also urged the
community to engage with the technical committee when called upon to do so.
