Premier Mabuza to sign memorandum of understanding with Sasol
11 October 2012
Mpumalanga Premier David Mabuza will next week Monday sign a memorandum of understanding with the country’s integrated mining, gas, oil and chemicals company, Sasol. The MOU follows an intended multi-million Rand investment by Sasol in the province meant to improve the living conditions of communities in the Gert Sibande District Municipality.
The R71.7 million investments are intended for the Govan Mbeki and Dipaliseng municipalities respectively. Two weeks ago, Premier
Mabuza held a meeting with Sasol’s Group Executive Member Maurice Radebe and agreed to partner in delivering social and labour plan projects.
With Sasol setting aside R46.2 million for the Govan Mbeki Municipality and R25.5 million for Dipaliseng, the provincial government is expected to play an oversight role in the roll-out of the projects.
The projects include purchasing of sewer trucks for Charl Cilliers, water connection for Kinross, construction of Leandra fire station, upgrading of Mzinoni Stadium outside Bethal and the construction of a multi-purpose centre also in Charl Cilliers.
Sasol will also construct Phase 2 of Lebohang storm water drains; upgrade sewerage plant and a stadium in eMbalenhle Township outside Secunda. They will also construct Foot Bridge and install public lights again at eMbalenhle. Prior to the signing of the MOU, the Honourable Premier will conduct a site visit to a school built by Sasol in Kinross.
