Mpumalanga Executive Council is on a two day visit to Thaba Chweu Municipality
13 April 2010
The Executive Council will be visiting Thaba Chweu Local
Municipality from 14 -15 April 2010 as part of its cabinet outreach programme.
The municipality was one of the hardest hit by service
delivery protests in the past few months. Since then, Premier David Mabuza
together with MEC for Co-opertaive Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr Norman
Mokoena, visited the area on several occasions to assure the people that
government cares and does listen to their concerns with a view to address them.
However, they individually and collectively condemned violent protests as they
called for calm and restraint.
Recently, the Executive Council took a decision to visit
all municipalities that were affected by service delivery protests. After
communicating with all the structures in the municipalities and an advanced team
was then tasked to identify the destroyed property in those areas. Members of
the Executive Council are expected to visit some of those affected areas.
Key issues that will be addressed during these visits
include, social grants, progress on projects of government and information on
new projects. Members of the Executive Council will be deployed to community
meetings throughout the 16 wards in the municipality to provide feedback and
interact with the communities on any service delivery issue.
On the first day, 14 April 2010 community meetings will be
held in ten wards and the remaining six wards will be visited the following day.
The media is invited to all community meetings starting at
14h00.
