Welcome to the Mpumalanga Provincial Government

First batch of transfered Human Settlement top management

22 November 2012

Mpumalanga Premier David Mabuza has confirmed the transfer of the first batch of senior managers from the provincial Department of Human Settlements to other departments.

At least five top managers have been transferred to the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Department of Health and the Office of the Premier.

The senior managers have been drawn from four directorates which are Financial Management, People’s Housing Process and Rural Housing, Incremental Housing and Legal Services.

Their transfer is with effect from the beginning of December this year [01 December 2012] and they will be replaced by their counterparts from the receiving departments.

The managers were officially briefed today [22 November 2012] about their new departments by the provincial government’s Director-General Dr Nonhlanhla Mkhize.

The transfers follow the Premier’s decision a week ago to increase capacity by swapping them with others from other departments in an effort to ensure that the department performed satisfactory in delivering the RDP houses.

The next group will be transferred in January 2013 to avoid not to “collapse the system” of the department by putting new people in leadership positions all together.

“This intervention should assist us as a province in providing much-deserved shelter to the people who entirely rely on government. We are therefore re-organising the administration this department with the aim of maximising capacity and service delivery.
“We have no choice but to convince the people out there who mandated us to run this administration that we care about their needs, and that the leadership we provide make a great positive impact in their lives,” said the Premier.
Premier Mabuza has also urged officials from all the provincial departments to “pull their socks” by prioritising the needy when they work as they are the ones who entrusted the ruling party to run the government on their behalf.
“It is about time that we should consider ourselves privileged to work for this government, therefore we cannot delay the freedom of the people by not giving them what will change their lives for the better.
“Some of us sleep less every night as we keep on thinking about possible solutions on how to improve the lives of our people, and it cannot be right that we would be let down by the public servants,” said the Premier.

Further, in increasing its capacity, the department will advertise at least 15 posts of senior management in the next two coming weeks. Already, the post of the head of the department has also been advertised.

While welcoming the swapped officials from other department, the Premier expressed hope that that they would contribute greatly in improving the situation and that they should be provided with the necessary support.

In the meantime, the Premier has appointed the Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism Nkangala Regional Director Mr Sarel Mtsweni as the Department of Human Settlements’ head of department with effect from Monday, 26 November 2012.
