Premier Mabuza’s housing legacy project continues to change lives for the better

28 October 2013

Mpumalanga Premier David Mabuza’s housing legacy project called Kancane Kancane continues to change the lives of the destitute for the better.

On Saturday [26 October 2013] Premier Mabuza handed over two furnished four-roomed houses to the elderly families of Vukuzakhe in Volkrust.

One of the beneficiaries was a 101year old Mr Jeke Nxumalo who the Premier felt giving him a house was an honour considering his age and that it matched that of the ruling party.

“This old man could have died without the honour of owing his own house; however this little effort from our sponsors will bring about much-deserved dignity to his family. Through this project, we have brought freedom in his life.

“Our government and the ruling party has done well in bringing dignity to our people since the dawn of democracy. It may have taken a long time for the old man here today to get his freedom, but through working together he is free today,” said Mabuza.

He appreciated the Telkom Foundation which supported the houses financially saying their backing would not go unnoticed.

Telkom’s Executive for Stakeholder Management and Government Relations Lulama Nongogo said they were proud to be involved in the Premier’s Kancane Kancane initiative.

“It is heart-warming to be part of the new journey that these two families will now embark on. Telkom’s mission of ‘seamlessly connecting people to a better life’ is being realised here through our partnership with government in social responsibility projects,” said Ms Nongogo.

The beneficiaries were identified by the Premier during the Taking the Legislature to the People at Pixley KaSeme Municipality in March with the help of the Legislature.
