"Conviction of dangerous criminal restores faith in
the JCPS" - MEC Shongwe
02 August 2013
The Criminal Justice System must be commended for its contribution to eradication of crime in this province by bringing to book and successfully convicting Steven Malumane of Chochocho near Hazyview, this is according to Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe.
Shongwe says that Malumane’s sentencing sends a
message that government is committed in making sure that dangerous criminals
are taken away from the streets in order to protect the lives of innocent
citizens.
“We need to intensify our efforts as members of Justice, Crime and Security (JCPS) departments to ensure that those who keep on abusing members of communities through violence and killing other people are taken away from communities to correctional services,” the MEC said.
Community members are requested to assist government by coming forward with information that will lead to arrests and successful conviction of dangerous criminals like Malumane.
Malumane, who was found guilty on three charges possession of possession of an an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, hijacking and murder, was sentenced to 45 years in prison. He was sentenced on Friday, 2August 2013 at the Nelspruit Circuit of the North Gauteng High Court.
