Shongwe commends police for smooth matric exams

The Mpumalanga Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe has commended the police in the province for ensuring that there are no leakages of matric examinations papers for 2010 academic year.

Mpumalanga Province has over the past years received bad publicity on leakages of examination papers.

Shongwe said that the police worked very hard in the safeguarding of the papers in the province which assisted in the incident free matric examination writing process.

He said that it was an embarrassing that the province was known for bad things that tarnish the good things done by province.  

“We cannot allow a few corrupt people to destroy the good image of our province, and destroy the future of our children,” said Shongwe.

The MEC made a commitment that such incidences will not be allowed to occur in the province again. He added that the police will always be involved in ensuring that credible examinations are run in the province and that children are always protected from embarrassment.

Shongwe also commended the National and Provincial departments of Education for working well with the police and making sure that strategies were in place to ensure that the incident does not repeat itself.

He said that it was not only the Department of Education and SAPS responsibility to make sure that there are no leakages, but emphasised that learners should also stop buying question papers from people and report suspects to the police.
