MEC Shongwe assist TIU arrest 10 people for different violations

The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison
MEC, Mr Vusi Shongwe together with the Traffic Intervention Unit (TIU) have
arrested ten people for different violations in Delmas during an operation that
took place on Saturday, March 3, 2012.
Out of the ten people arrested, two were apprehended for dagga dealing, two for possession of dagga, three for driving without driving licenses, one for possession of drugs, one for drunken driving and one for bribery.
The MEC said he will not rest until the province is crime and road accident free. He added that wrong doers must be warned as operations aimed at reducing crime and accidents will be staged all over the province unannounced.
During the operation, 195 fines for various traffic violations were
issued and 63 vehicles were discontinued.
The department’s law enforcement operations are a supplement to the
road safety campaigns aimed at encouraging road users to be responsible on the
road in order to ensure a safe road environment.
